Let’s keep this really simple. We do not test cosmetics on animals. And we will not ask any other company to test on our behalf.
Unfortunately, many of the most common ingredients used in cosmetics (regardless of the brand) were at one time in the past tested on animals (Note: never by us). However the latest (2013) EU cosmetic regulations prevent the use of ingredients tested after the cut off date. We take the matter of checking our compliance very seriously as an integral part of our product development process.
We look forward to the day when animal testing is banned worldwide forever.
Each Pangaea brand has its own ‘ingredient deck’ – that is the ingredients the brand is allowed to select from. We try not to be dogmatic and be led by uninformed scaremongering however we take a pragmatic view and the reality is with a little work most suspicious ingredients can be left out. You won’t find us jumping on the nonsensical and rather cynical ‘chemical free’ bandwagon but company wide, we do leave out ingredients which are of concern to many. We actually leave out many ingredients which others leave in eg Oxybenzone. Each brand is clear and transparent about every ingredient in every product. We do not use eg. Parabens, MIT/MICT, SLS and other common ‘nasties’.
All products are formulated to comply with current EU standards.
Lots of people in our industry talk about quality, but how many are ISO certified.
We take quality seriously and put certification forward as proof of our total commitment. As anyone who has been through the process will tell you, it is a really grueling process where everything is checked. And we are inspected regularly. We do not have to do this! We do it to keep our standards high so our customers are happy.
Pangaea is accredited ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems Award, Lloyd’s Register, 2016 and ISO 22716-2010, Lloyd’s Register, 2016 in a demonstrable commitment to quality standards. Part of our ISO certification requires us to handle the rare customer complaints we receive in a methodical, professional and caring manner. We see an amazing customer experience as our primary goal.
We try and save paper as much as possible within the limitations of creating beautiful cosmetic products. One way is actually at our offices where printing documents is frowned upon as we have so many digital tools and everyone has two screens to view data.
Pangaea is extremely proud to announce that in the past 12 months, we
have produced over 1.2 million cartons made from sustainably-source FSC mixed packaging – that is, from “well-managed woodland and recycled fibre”. This achievement is recognised by the FSC logo on our cartons.
We are 100% plastic microbead free products.
We did have ‘plastic microbeads’ in one product from the hundreds of products we produce. This one product was a sub-contracted legacy product. We took production in-house and reformulated in 2015, around 2 years before any government requirements which are still a while away from law.
We use as much glass as possible and our current focus is increasing our recycled plastic usage.
Our offices are 100% powered by renewable energy. We operate from a brand new energy efficient building with latest lighting and heating technology to reduce power consumption at source.
Our laboratories and warehouse are still stuck in a supply contract of a traditional energy supplier but that is due to run out in 2018 and we will be switching to renewable supply there too.
Separately, we have designed product formulation that uses so-called ‘cold-processing’ techniques so that far lower CO2 is emitted in production.
For more than 10 years, Pangaea has made a regular donation, every month, to Cancer Research by direct debit. We have never missed a month.
We also have a policy of supporting causes which our staff care about. We will be the first donor of £50 provided they raise the same or more.
If you have an image of a parochial cottage industry struggling through against the might of world competition, then you need to rethink.
Pangaea is a world-beater. Think Concorde, not biplanes. We are leading the industry in many areas and we are growing fast. We have insane plans for the future and we are proud to be developing and manufacturing in Britain supporting British jobs but also the supply chain.
Last year, Pangaea spent nearly £4m with UK suppliers which represent more than 75% of our supply chain.
How many times do you hear on the news of a “disruptive company” that is taking the world by storm but has unhappy staff.
Well we want to disrupt the disrupting model. To show that it is possible to meet the needs of your customers but not sacrifice your team in order to achieve it. The secret (or at least what seems to be working) is to hire people who get the company mission, values and reason we exist and they see they are the type of want to deliver the best to our highly valued customers.
